What is the difference between Polystrippa Paint Stripper and Polystrippa Renovator's Choice?
Polystrippa Paint Stripper is formulated with methylene chloride. It is very
aggressive and therefore, acts quickly. It is most suitable for smaller applications
as it evaporates fast. Polystrippa Renovator's Choice, on the other hand, is free
of methylene chloride and takes longer to work. However, this is preferable for
larger applications, indoor applications (where ventilation is limited) or if you
are concerned about using highly toxic chemicals.
Can I speed up the paint stripper process?
Yes, by lightly scouring the surface of the coating with a stiff wire brush,
or by lightly sanding the surface with a coarse-grade sandpaper before application of the stripper.
Placing a garbage bag over the item being stripped will also help reduce paint stripper evaporation
and results in more effective stripping.
Applying a thicker application of paint stripper is also more effective than a thinner application,
as this also counteracts evaporation.
Don't forget to work in a cool, shaded outdoor area for maximum results and to avoid inhaling fumes.
I've just stripped back the paint on timber, but there are still stains?
Paint strippers are effective in removing coatings. Most stains actually
penetrate the timber and do not form any coating, and as such, cannot be softened
and penetrated by paint strippers.
WHY DON'T PAINT STRIPPERS REMOVE STAINS FROM TIMBER?
Paint strippers are effective
in removing coatings. Most stains actually penetrate the timber and do not
form any coating, and as such, cannot be softened and penetrated by paint
strippers.
How do I clean the surface after stripping?
Remove all paint stripper residue by cleaning with a cloth wet with water.
If surface is sensitive to water clean with methylated spirits. Ensure paint
stripper is completely removed from corners, cracks, and crevices. Allow
surface to dry thoroughly before painting or varnishing. Do not accelerate
drying with a heat source as this can cause timber to crack or warp.
